Elucidation of plant metabolism by comprehensive analyses of metabolites and transcripts
Metabolism-the process of nutrient assimilation and energy/material production-is the basis of life and, hence, it is regulated by complicated mechanisms in the plant cell. In order to elucidate the metabolism of the whole plant as a system, comprehensive data of gene expression and metabolite accumulation obtained by transcriptomics and metabolomics are analyzed with the help of bioinformatics. The findings obtained by bioinformatics and molecular biology are then integrated.
Content of Research
- Integration of metabolomics and transcriptomics for comprehensive prediction of unknown gene functions and confirmation of the predicted functions by molecular biology and reversed genetics.
- Identification of the genes useful for improvement of plant production.
- High-throughput metabolic profiling of large-scale Arabidopsis bioresources.
- Elucidation of regulatory mechanism of amino acid metabolism
Japan Science and Technology Agency, CREST, Research theme gElucidation of amino acid metabolism in plants based on integrated omics analysesh (Researcher, Masami Yokota Hirai)
Result of Research
- We established the methodology for widely targeted metabolomics and started to analyze bioresources to acquire a large-scale metabolome dataset.
- Based on coexpression analysis using the transcriptome data, we identified the candidate genes involved in glucosinolate biosynthesis, and confirmed the predicted function of the candidates.
